For those who find joy in helping others; for those who want to be a part of a team that saves lives; for those who have always wished to join the medical field, but don’t know where to start; you have found your opportunity. Contra Costa Medical Career College provides students with the knowledge and experience to enter the medical field. Like the medical field, CCMCC is growing fast and is constantly advancing the way students are taught. Although with this growth, CCMCC is maintaining its feeling of community. Students are greeted with smiles every time they walk through that door. Instructors learn about students to find the best facility to match the students’ skills as well as personality. After completing the surgical technology program, students are welcome and encouraged to return to share with the next class all the experience they have built which provides future students a strong support system of alumni in the field. Best of all CCMCC is contracted with hundreds of hospitals stretching from Stockton to San Francisco and Sacramento to San Jose, so they can place students at commuter friendly facilities and every student will receive an externship provided from the school rather than having to look for their own.

I started at CCMCC in June of 2015, joining the sterile processing program. During my time I fell in love with healthcare and received confirmation that I wanted to advance with in the surgical field. CCMCC placed me at UCSF Parnassus for my clinical externship in SPD and I was hired at UCSF Mission Bay before I finished my externship. I then joined the surgical technology class the following June of 2016 and was given the opportunity to train at Kaiser Permanente in Antioch. Upon completion of my externship I was offered a position at Kaiser San Francisco. After a year of experience, I transferred to Kaiser Sacramento, so I could continue my education at UC Davis, pursuing a Bachelors in Physiology and planning of eventually going to medical school to become a surgeon. Although at the same time I switched roles at UCSF and moved from sterile processing to become a surgical tech in the pediatric operating room. I share this because none of it would have been possible if it weren’t for CCMCC and the magnificent staff within. Hopefully this story shows everyone wishing to join the healthcare field how many opportunities are available for those who seek them.

As one of the Alumni who returns for each class, I have helped instruct both students in the dialectic portion and off on externship. I have also trained students from other schools on their externships as well and can say with full confidence, CCMCC prepares students the best. This surgical technology program is highly accelerated and challenging, but that alone gets students comfortable with thinking clearly in the fast pace environment the operating room can be. There is no better school to prepare you for the operating room, so I hope I see you on campus!
